Sandgate Golf Club is a nine-hole waterside course with 18 tees at Shorncliffe in Brisbane's north, established in 1921. It is one of Queensland's oldest nine-hole courses, and social golfers can play at set times outside member competitions.
Sandgate Golf Club is a nine-hole course at Shorncliffe, about 16 kilometres from the Brisbane CBD, with the railway station right next door. The club was established in 1921 and calls itself one of Queensland's oldest nine-hole courses. Golfers say there are two sets of tees so it can be played as 18 holes, and a mix of par 3s, 4s and 5s. One reviewer found it longer than expected.
The course is low-lying and flood-prone, and reviewers commonly comment on the state of the turf. Several describe bare patches on fairways and rough greens, saying it feels more like a park than a manicured course, while others who visited after rain say the ground staff had it looking much better. The club posts course notices on its site, and on the day we checked it was open but very wet with carts off.
Visitors can book through the club's public bookings page. Social players can tee off after 11am Monday to Thursday, after 3pm on Saturdays once the club competition is through, and at most times on Fridays and Sundays. Weekday and Saturday competitions mean pace can slow, and a few golfers report long waits on busy afternoons. Reviews of the pro shop and bar staff are mixed, with some finding it friendly and others finding it abrupt. It is cheap and easy to get on, which suits casual hits, beginners and golfers wanting a laid-back game rather than a polished course.

“Played on a Saturday afternoon and staff really struggled with bookings and what was going on around the course. Seems things were heavily overbooked as there was a line 4 groups deep still waiting to tee off at our tee time. No effort…”

“The course is showing signs from the recent rain deluges as it is low-lying, though the ground staff are obviously making every effort to effect the repairs still required. Despite Mother Nature's efforts I found the course very…”
