Wolston Park is an 18-hole course at Wacol in Brisbane's west, set through native bush and open flats on a bend of the Brisbane River. The club was established in 1961 and the course plays to par 67 for men and 69 for women, about 4,765 metres. It is undulating, with tight fairways and well-placed bunkers that favour accuracy over distance, and the club has fly-over videos of every hole on its website. Kangaroos near the fairways are the thing visitors mention most, along with a friendly pro shop and bar, and greens that roll well. Several golfers say the fairways are forgiving for beginners and that it is better value than most Brisbane courses, and the club is carrying out course upgrades. To play as a visitor you register as a public member on the club's MiClub booking page and then pick a tee time. Green fees are not listed on the website, so check at booking. Motorised carts are available, and there are putting greens, warm-up nets, a short practice fairway and an indoor simulator. The clubhouse has a restaurant and bar with river views, and function rooms. It is a good pick for a relaxed social round, beginners and newer players.
