Royal Queensland Golf Club is a private 18-hole championship course at Eagle Farm in Brisbane, established in 1920 and opened in 1921. It has hosted the Australian PGA Championship. Visitors are welcome only with an introduction from their home club or a member.
Royal Queensland is one of Brisbane's oldest and best-known clubs, on Curtin Avenue West at Eagle Farm near the airport. The club was established in 1920 and the course opened in 1921, designed originally by Carnegie Clark, with Alister MacKenzie contributing to a number of holes after his 1926 visit to Brisbane. Third-party listings give par 72 and about 6,400 to 6,450 metres from the back tees, with open parkland flat enough to walk easily, though the club's own pages did not confirm those figures. Reviews mostly come from the Australian PGA Championship, with spectators describing a well-presented course, a challenging layout and tricky greens, and praising the way the grounds staff got the event through heavy rain. One overseas visitor wrote to the club ahead of time and was given an excellent reception, including a personalised scorecard and a host member. The club has practice facilities, a dedicated teaching facility, tennis courts and a clubhouse with food and drink. Visitors should expect to be a member of another club with a handicap, to contact the club well in advance, and to meet a strict dress code that bans denim, tracksuits, hooded tops, t-shirts and similar. Metal spikes are not allowed. Green fees were not published, so ask when you enquire. It suits keen golfers wanting a historic course with tournament pedigree.
