The Pines is the private course at Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club, a Palmer signature design laid out over about 101 hectares of pine forest. Six man-made lakes come into play on 14 of the holes, and the club lists scratch ratings of 76 from the black tees and 73 from the blue. Par and length are not stated on the page we could read.

Golfers describe the course in glowing terms: greens that are among the best in the region, immaculate conditioning, a strong set of par 3s and a test that punishes errors. Several call it challenging and somewhat frustrating unless you are playing well. Reviewers also praise the practice facilities, the clubhouse, the restaurant and bar.

Access is restricted. The club is members-only, and guests must be invited by a member, or introduced through a golf club with a letter of introduction. Visitor green fees are listed at $500 a head for The Pines, including a shared cart, against $400 for its sister course The Palms. Enquiries go through a booking form on the club website. A strict dress code applies. It suits golfers with a member host or a special occasion rather than a casual visit.
